Episode 1001: Cottage Square

On this episode of Love of Quitling Marianne and Liz make a Cottage Square quilt. Episode 1002: Radiant Blue, Part 1

We have a stunning quilt for you on these two episodes. It was made by a national quilter, Marsha McCloskey, and it’s called Radiant Blue. We’re going to be spending two programs on this quilt because there are so many wonderful techniques to teach you. You’ll be a real pro after you make it. In this episode we’ll show you how to use triangle trimmers for more accurate piecing, how to use a bias strip method for half-square triangles, and how to make corner units for the feather star block.

We’re going to be spending two programs on this quilt because there are so many wonderful techniques to teach you. You’ll be a real pro after you make it. In this episode we’re going to be showing you how to complete your feathered star block. We’re going to show you how to sew partial seams for side units for feathered star blocks, how to combine block units in to rows, and how to finish the partial seams to complete the block.


Episode 1004: Suns and Moons Quilt with Jane Sassaman 

For this episode of Love of Quilting Liz welcomes a special guest, Jane Sassaman, who will be sharing her specatular quilts. Jane and Liz are going to work together with some really neat dotted fabrics and some great methods for a layered appliqué quilt. You’ll learn how to create a unique design for a wall quilt, how to use Jane’s bandaide construction technique, and how to use your machine’s decorative stitches to enhance your quilting design.


Episode 1005: Basketweave Baby Quilt

Whether you’re a grandmother or a new mother, making a baby quilt or a nursery set is always a lot of fun. We’ve got a really unique baby quilt with us for this episode called Basketweave Baby. It has a kind of three-dimensional look and it was made by Betty Hufford and quilted by her daughter Jean Nolte. We’ll show you how to sew partial seams to create a woven effect, how to chain piece blocks and rows of blocks, and how to finger-press seams and connect rows.


Episode 1006: Quilting Windmills with John Flynn

On this episode of Fons & Porter Love of Quilting we’ll be joined by a special guest, John Flynn. Everybody’s looking for a unique kind-of different block to make and John has got some neat quilts and neat spiral blocks to show us. John will be showing us how to make spiral quilt blocks, how to make a “Y” seam fool proof and techniques for quilting on your home sewing machine with a special quilting frame.

The Spice Island Compass that we’ll be making on these episodes is made from Mariner’s Compass blocks, and that’s a block that most every quilter aspires to making. In show 1007 we’ll be showing you how to experiment with color placement for a compass design, how to paper piece mariner’s compass sections, and how to connect those sections to make a perfect circle. The Spice Island Compass that we’ll be making on these episodes is made from Mariner’s Compass blocks, and that’s a block that most every quilter aspires to making. In show 1008 we’ll be continuing our exploration of the Mariner’s Compass design. We’ll show you how to appliqué the center circle using a fusible technique, how to set the compass into the background pieces, and we’ll be joined by Gerald Roy for a “This Old Quilt” segment.


Episode 1009: Desert Stars 

In this episode we’ll be sharing a stunning quilt by Margaret Miller, called Desert Stars. It uses unique fabrics and very unique construction techniques that we’re going to share with you. We’ll be showing you how to use verigated fabric to get eye-catching results, how to use templates with pre-trimmed points, and how to organize the many pieces that go in to this unique quilt.


Episode 1010: Petite Baskets 

In show 1010 of Fons & Porter Love of Quilting we’ll be making this Petite Basket quilt. Both Liz and Marianne really like to make big quilts but it’s fun sometimes to make a little quilt—it’s amazing how quickly it gets finished! We’ll be using this little quilt to show you how to use quarter-inch seam markers, to make half-square triangle units, how to use triangle trimmers for perfect patchwork piecing, and how to use a diagonal sets ruler to cut background pieces for diagonally set quilts.


Episode 1011: Digital Thread Painting with Sylvain Bergeron 

Incorporating machine embroidery into quilts is getting to be more and more popular and today Marianne will be joined by Sylvain Bergeron, our special guest. We’re excited to be working with Sylvain because he’s experimenting with neat techniques where the thread embroidery really becomes the quilt. Sylvain will be demonstrating how to digitize an embroidery design, how to design a quilt using embroidered blocks, and how to choose the best stabilizer for your project.


Episode 1012: Longarm Mastery with Marilyn Badger 

On this episode of Love of Quilting we’re joined by our special guest Marilyn Badger. We always love having Marilyn on the show because she always brings quilts that just knock our socks off and that’s true for this episode, too. She’s going to share with us her prize winning tips on planning designs for longarm quilting, how to adapt designs to fit specific areas, and how to mark and quilt a unique background filler design.


Episode 1013: Binding—The Perfect Finish

In this episode of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting we’re going to be talking about binding, a really important part of completing a quilt. It seems like quilters we meet always have questions about how to improve their binding and there really are things you can do to improve your binding that aren’t that hard. We’ll be showing you how to join and press binding strips, how to make your binding turn perfectly at the corner of your quilt, and how to have a happy ending using a special new binding tool. We’ll also be joined by Gerald Roy who’ll be bringing antique quilts for a “This Old Quilt” segment.
