3113: Starring Sunflowers – Fons & Porter
Episode 3113 Description and Preview
Dreaming of summer? Or, wondering how to work with border prints? Here’s one for you! Ann Lauer lent us Starring Sunflowers so we could teach you her clever approach to creating an interesting border. Sara Gallegos and Angela Huffman break down Ann Lauer’s quilt into easy-to-understand steps that will have you ready to quilt right away! You’ll learn how to build up to complex quilt blocks from a few basic units, how to plan around and then work with border-print fabrics, and how to create a “confetti” border using simple Nine-Patch quilt blocks set on-point.
Featured Quilt: Starring Sunflowers
Starring Sunflowers was designed by Ann Lauer and is featured in the Love of Quilting January/February 2018 issue. It will also soon be available in the 3100 series eBook.

How do i get the full show on video?
Is there a kit for this? Sunflowers are our state flower! Thanks!
Mary, thanks for asking! Unfortunately, there’s no kit available for Starring Sunflowers, but a pattern *is available in our shop.
This is a beautiful quilt but not wide enough for my queen size bed. How can the pattern be changed to accomplish this?
Peggy,
I’ll forward your question to our content team for help!
Peggy,
I heard back from our team. While we’d love to, we aren’t able to provide instructions for other sizes for all our patterns. If you’d like to size it differently, we do have a few suggestions:
1. You can take the pattern to a local quilt shop—they’d be thrilled to sell more fabric for a larger quilt, and likely have the expertise to figure it out.
2. You may also be able to take the pattern to a guild meeting for help, especially since guild members tend to be more advanced quilters, and could probably make short work of it.
3. I also found this fantastic article that includes a lot of great tips on resizing https://www.quiltingcompany.com/tip-tuesday-want-king-size-quilts-resize-your-quilt-patterns-fons-porter/.
Good luck!
Best,
Tiffany
